Connect Rock RMS
Currently in final testing. The Rock RMS import is built and we’re verifying it against live Rock installations. If you run Rock and want to import, reach out at hello@volunteercircle.com and we’ll confirm it’s ready for your setup and walk through it with you. The steps below are what to expect.
You can import your volunteers from Rock RMS into Volunteer Circle. Because Rock is self-hosted (your church runs its own Rock server), the setup is a read-only REST API key plus your Rock’s base URL. You import by Groups.
New to importing? Read How importing your people works first — it covers the rules that apply to every ChMS.
Part 1 — For your Rock administrator
If you’re the Volunteer Circle admin but not a Rock admin, forward this section to whoever administers your church’s Rock server.
- In Rock, go to Admin Tools → Security → REST Keys.
- Create a REST API key tied to a person (Rock issues the key through a person record), for Volunteer Circle to use.
- Give that key read access to the groups and people you want to import — it only needs to read, never write.
Then send these two things back to the Volunteer Circle admin:
- Rock base URL — the web address of your church’s Rock server (for example,
https://rock.firstchurch.org). - REST API key
Part 2 — Connect it in Volunteer Circle
Once you have the base URL and REST API key:
- In Volunteer Circle, go to the import screen and choose Rock RMS.
- Enter your Rock base URL and REST API key.
- Volunteer Circle connects and shows you the Groups it can see.
- For each Group you want, choose to create a new team, map it to an existing team, or skip it.
- Run the import.
The people in those Groups come in as pending for you to review and activate, and their Group membership becomes their Volunteer Circle team membership. Imported fields are first name, last name, and email.
Your credentials stay safe
- The REST API key is stored encrypted.
- It’s used only to read the groups and people you selected — nothing is ever written back to Rock.
- You can revoke access anytime by disabling or deleting that REST key in Rock (Admin Tools → Security → REST Keys).
