Connect Church Community Builder (CCB)

Updated October 11, 2026

The steps here are stable; exact screenshots will be added once the interface is final.

You can import your volunteers from Church Community Builder (CCB) into Volunteer Circle. CCB needs a small bit of setup first: a CCB administrator creates a read-only API user, then hands three details back to you. You import by Groups.

New to importing? Read How importing your people works first — it covers the rules that apply to every ChMS.

Part 1 — For your CCB administrator

If you’re the Volunteer Circle admin but not a CCB admin, forward this section to whoever administers CCB for your church. It’s everything they need.

Volunteer Circle connects to CCB through CCB’s API, using a dedicated API user with read-only access to just two services. Here’s how to set it up:

  1. In CCB, open API Admin (the API settings area for your church).
  2. Create a new API user for Volunteer Circle.
  3. Enable exactly these two services for that user — both are read-only:
    • group_profiles — lets Volunteer Circle list your groups.
    • group_participants — lets Volunteer Circle read the people in the groups you choose (each person’s name and email come back with it).
  4. Make sure the API user has permission to view the groups you want to import and the people’s contact details in them. If the user can’t see a group or its members’ emails, Volunteer Circle won’t be able to either.

Then send these three things back to the Volunteer Circle admin:

  • Subdomain — the part before .ccbchurch.com in your CCB web address (for example, if your CCB is firstchurch.ccbchurch.com, the subdomain is firstchurch).
  • API username
  • API password

That’s all CCB needs. The API user stays read-only and only ever touches the two services above.

Part 2 — For the Volunteer Circle admin

Once you have the subdomain, API username, and API password:

  1. In Volunteer Circle, go to the import screen and choose Church Community Builder.
  2. Enter the subdomain, API username, and API password.
  3. Volunteer Circle connects and shows you the Groups it can see.
  4. For each Group you want, choose to create a new team, map it to an existing team, or skip it.
  5. Run the import.

The people in those Groups come in as pending for you to review and activate, and their Group membership becomes their Volunteer Circle team membership. Imported fields are first name, last name, and email.

Your credentials stay safe

  • The API username and password are stored encrypted.
  • They’re used only to read the groups and people you selected — nothing is ever written back to CCB.
  • You can revoke access anytime by disabling or deleting that API user in CCB’s API Admin.
